A training course under the project to strengthen capacity building in the ASEAN agricultural sector was held in Tokyo, Nagano Prefecture, and Niigata Prefecture between August 25 and September 11, 2013. IDACA conducted this training course on consignment through cooperation between JA Zenchu and the ASEAN Secretariat and funding by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries (MAFF). Twenty participants from nine ASEAN-member countries, with the exception of Singapore, participated in the training course.

Field study visits took place in Nagano Prefecture. The training participants visited JA Nagano, JA Matsumoto Highland, Ito Seibaku Co., Ltd. (biomass), and Chushindaira Right Bank Land Improvement District in Nagano Prefecture. Fur-thermore, the participants attended a special seminar titled “Food Security – Water Management and Sustainable Agriculture,” an event commemorating the 40th anniversary of Japan-ASEAN friendship held in Niigata Prefecture under the auspices of the MAFF.
