REPORTS ON TRAINING COURSES

(1) FY2013 JICA Training Course on Implementation and Promotion of Agribusiness for African Countries

Cooperation Agency (JICA), IDACA conducted a training program between October and November of 2013, focused on the topic of “agribusiness” and targeting the African region (18 participants from 16 countries). Field study visits were planned for Nagano Prefecture, Oita Prefecture, and Yamanashi Prefecture. In Nagano Prefecture, the participants, basing themselves in Iiyama City, studied case examples of promotion of agriculture and rural areas through the use of local resources including tourism. In Oita Prefecture, they studied case examples of initiatives in the “One Village One Product” movement and the concept of product development through practical training. In Yamanashi Prefecture, the participants were able to learn about winemaking, organic farming, etc. For the participants, the training course became a valuable opportunity to examine the initiatives of agricultural cooperatives organized at different levels from the village level to the national level, the mechanisms from production to marketing, and the possibilities of not only the processing of agricultural products but also various businesses that utilize local resources.
