Making Onigiri Beyond Words
Gifu Prefectural Council of JA Women's Associations
In September, JA Hida undertook a study visit of ICA/JAPAN Training Project for the Promotion of Sustainable Enterprises for Rural Women. Taking time off from regular assignments, visitors challenged making onigiri (rice balls), a popular picnic food. Merry laughter filled the room as they fumbled and ended up with spherical, odd-shaped onigiris instead of the traditional triangular or oblong onigiri, while pickled plums and other ingredients, which are supposed to be packed tight inside the riceballs, kept spilling out. Nevertheless, or maybe because of the humorous happenings over the food, we felt we had overcome the language barrier and felt at one with our Asian neighbors.
All the members of JA Women's Associations in Gifu Prefecture are happy to have had an opportunity to welcome the guests the best way we could. We wish you all every success in your careers and business ventures at home.
