Is the Japanese “Okonomiyaki” Like Pizza?

We lost sleep over preparations for the visit of the Romanian group, over what foods we could serve them besides of course making sure that the contents of the training satisfy their needs. At last we decided to serve “okonomiyaki”, a thin and flat pancake cooked on a hot plate with bits of meats and other ingredients, which is Hiroshima Prefecture's signature dish. However, the dish apparently did not suit their taste. One reason for the unfavorable reaction was perhaps due to the fact that the guests had been told they would be served “Japanese pizza.” They discovered soon that the food served tasted nowhere close to pizza. Still, we believe they appreciated our sincere hospitality and that we were able to play our parts successfully in international cooperation. Our wishes are that these transborder encounters will pave the way, little by little, toward a peaceful world.
